Sultans of Swing hold their nerve to lift the title

Chandigarh, October 30: Sultans of Swing won the GB Realty Chandigarh Golf League 2026 title on their first final appearance, edging Hunting Hawks 4–3 in a contest shaped by comebacks and tense finishes at The Chandigarh Golf Club on Friday. Jitendra Singh and Somveer Singh Anand won the final two holes for a crucial 1-up victory, while two other games finished all square as Sultans denied the highest-ranked qualifiers at the final hurdle.

Pirates of the Greens claimed third place with a 4.5–2.5 victory over outgoing champions The Mulligans.

The final brought together the top two teams after the round robin, and the margins were fittingly small. Hunting Hawks collected 1.5 points from the singles, but Sultans answered with three pairs victories and a half to secure the trophy.

Arav Singh Dagar and Sampat Singh supplied an early taste of the contest’s twists. Sampat won three of the opening four holes and was two ahead after seven, before Arav took the eighth and ninth to bring the game level. Six successive halved holes followed, leaving everything to play for over the closing stretch.

Arav won the 16th, Sampat answered on the 17th, and the Hawks player took the last to finish 1 Up. In the other singles game, Shalini Sheoran won the 14th before the final four holes were halved, sharing the point with Amrinder Singh.

Rohit Singh Dagar and Kulwaran Singh delivered the Hawks’ most emphatic performance in the pairs. They won the final six holes of their game to close out a commanding 7&6 victory.

Sultans had to work much harder for their points. Dilsher Sukhija and Dhruv Gupta lost the opening three holes against Ravibir Singh and Lt. Col. G M S Bindra but recovered to win 3&1, turning a difficult start into a valuable contribution. Feroz Singh Garewal and Surinder Jit Singh added another 3&1 victory against Krishna Kaila and Col. A S Sekhon.

The tightest Sultans win came through Jitendra Singh and Somveer Singh Anand against Vinay S Bhan and Gursimrat Singh Jawandha. The Hawks pair won the 16th to move 1 Up, putting themselves within touching distance of a full point. Jitendra and Somveer responded by taking both the 17th and 18th, turning that deficit into a 1-up victory.

That late swing proved crucial to the overall result. A game that had been leaning towards the Hawks instead supplied one of Sultans’ three outright pairs points.

There was more pressure in Kulvinder Singh and Sukhdev Singh Sidhu’s encounter with Rabbin Saini and Col. P S Mangat. The Sultans pair won the 16th and 17th, but the Hawks took the last to rescue a half. With Shalini and Amrinder’s singles game also finishing all square, those shared points left Sultans with the narrowest possible team victory.

The title completed a strong knockout run for Sultans. After beating Golf Masters in the quarter-finals, they turned around last year’s semi-final result against The Mulligans before overcoming the Hawks in the final. Hunting Hawks, who had led the round-robin field with 26.5 points, finished runners-up after coming through a quarter-final playoff and a semi-final victory over Pirates.

In the third/fourth-place classification match, Pirates built their success on another singles sweep. K Raghav Bhandari beat Jaspreet Singh Sokhi 2 Up, while Amarinder Brar added a convincing 5&4 victory over Sunder Singh.

Manistha Rao and Bhupinder Singh contributed a 2&1 pairs win against Angad Singh Matharoo and Air Marshal T S Randhawa. Amandeep Bath and Paramjit Singh added a 4&3 result against Gauhar Singh Pruthi and Gurpreet Singh.

M P Singh and Col. Gurbir Singh Gill shared their game with Dr. Angad Sangha and A P S Kahai, completing Pirates’ 4.5-point tally.

The Mulligans collected their two outright wins through brothers Himmat Singh and Shamsher Singh’s 6&5 result, and a commanding 7&6 victory for captain Bismad Singh and Jaskeerat Kaur Matharoo. Pirates nevertheless had enough across the other games to finish third, leaving the defending champions fourth.

Hunting Hawks and Sultans of Swing Set Up Title Showdown

Chandigarh, October 28: Hunting Hawks and Sultans of Swing will battle for the championship title in the final of the GB Realty Chandigarh Golf League 2026 at The Chandigarh Golf Club on Friday, October 30. Sultans of Swing edged defending champions The Mulligans 4–3 in Wednesday’s semi-final, reversing last year’s result at the same stage, while Hunting Hawks delivered a convincing 4.5–2.5 victory over Pirates of the Greens.

The results set up a title clash between the top two teams from the round-robin stage. Third-seeded The Mulligans and fourth-seeded Pirates of the Greens will meet in the third/fourth-place classification match.

Sultans of Swing ended The Mulligans’ six-match winning streak and brought their title defence to a close. A strong showing in the singles laid the foundation for Sultans, while two closely contested pairs matches ultimately proved decisive.

Sampat Singh opened with a convincing 4&2 singles victory, while Feroz Singh Garewal faced a much tighter contest against Dr. Angad Sangha. Garewal won the 17th hole and halved the last to finish 1 Up, giving Sultans both singles points.

The Mulligans responded strongly in the pairs. Captain Bismad Singh and Jaskeerat Kaur Matharoo secured a 5&4 win, Gauhar Singh Pruthi and Inderbir Singh Alag added a 2&1 victory, and Jaspreet Singh Sokhi’s pairing contributed a 4&2 result to keep the defending champions firmly in contention.

Sultans found the crucial points through two contrasting pairs performances. Dilsher Sukhija and Surinder Jit Singh made an explosive start, winning the opening six holes before closing out a commanding 7&5 victory.

The decisive moment came in the contest between Rabbin Saini and Jitendra Singh and The Mulligans’ A P S Kahai and Sunder Singh. With the match finely balanced through a series of halved holes late in the game, the Sultans pairing held firm and won the 18th to finish 1 Up. That narrow victory secured the 4–3 team result and sent Sultans into the final, overcoming the side that had eliminated them at the same stage last year.

Hunting Hawks took a different route against Pirates of the Greens, recovering from a singles deficit by winning four of the five pairs matches.

Amarinder Brar gave Pirates an early boost with a 4&2 singles victory, while Arav Singh Dagar and K Raghav Bhandari halved their encounter. Pirates therefore held a 1.5–0.5 advantage after the singles.

The Hawks responded emphatically in the pairs. Rohit Singh Dagar and Kulwaran Singh produced the biggest winning margin with a 7&6 victory. Vinay S Bhan and Gursimrat Singh Jawandha added a 4&3 win, while Col. A S Sekhon and Krishna Kaila secured a convincing 5&4 result.

Kulvinder Singh and Sukhdev Singh Sidhu matched that 5&4 margin to complete Hunting Hawks’ four pairs victories and take their team tally to 4.5 points.

Pirates’ only pairs point came through Amandeep Bath and Paramjit Singh, who won 3&2. However, Hunting Hawks’ strength across the remaining matches proved decisive, earning them a place in the championship final.

The two finalists arrive after contrasting knockout journeys. Hunting Hawks topped the round-robin standings with 26.5 points and needed a three-hole playoff to overcome Moksha Royals in the quarter-finals before defeating Pirates. Sultans of Swing finished second with 24.5 points, beat Golf Masters in the quarter-finals and then ended the defending champions’ campaign in the last four.

Both teams now face one final hurdle on Friday, with a CGL title at stake in their first-ever final appearance.
