Maj RS Virk and Dr. Ravisher Singh Toor emerged victorious in the Independence Day Cup Team Matchplay Championship

Chandigarh, August 15: Maj RS Virk and Dr. Ravisher Singh Toor emerged victorious in the Independence Day Cup Team Matchplay Championship, defeating Darvesh Kumar and Sanjay Talwar in an exciting final played at the Chandigarh Golf Club on Thursday.

The Independence Day Cup, one of the Club’s most popular annual matchplay events, saw an impressive field of over 180 golfers, comprising 90 teams, compete for the coveted title. The team-format tournament tested not only individual golfing ability but also partnership, strategy and matchplay temperament.

The competition was conducted over a six-round knockout format, with teams progressing through successive rounds before the final. The matches began on July 7, with Round 1 being played from July 7 to 12, followed by Round 2 from July 14 to 19, Round 3 from July 21 to 26, Round 4 from July 28 to August 2, Round 5 from August 4 to 8 and the semi-final round from August 9 to 13. The championship culminated in the final on August 14.

The final brought together two strong pairings in what proved to be a closely fought contest. Maj RS Virk and Dr. Ravisher Singh Toor held their nerve when it mattered most to overcome Darvesh Kumar and Sanjay Talwar and claim the Independence Day Cup.

The tournament provided an extended period of competitive matchplay for members, with each round bringing new challenges and closely contested games. The strong participation reflected the popularity of team matchplay at the Chandigarh Golf Club and the enthusiasm of its golfing community.
