The Chandigarh Golf League (CGL) was conceived to bring a vibrant, team-based dimension to competitive golf at Chandigarh Golf Club. Inspired by successful franchise-style golf leagues across India, the concept sought to combine the excitement of professional sport with the camaraderie, sportsmanship and traditions of club golf.
The Vision Behind The Chandigarh Golf League
The league was developed with the vision of creating a distinctive team-based golfing experience, with the Chandigarh Golf Club Management Committee playing a key role in shaping and supporting the concept. The Committee embraced the idea and provided the direction and institutional support required to transform it into a full-fledged franchise-based league.
Mr. Brandon de Souza contributed to the initial conceptualisation of the league, drawing on his experience in golf event management.
The League Begins
The inaugural CGL commenced on 21 September 2022 and concluded on 30 October 2022. The first edition brought together 20 teams and 360 golfers in a league-cum-knockout format, introducing team ownership, player auctions and a new competitive identity to club golf.
Building on Success
The League returned for its second edition, building on the enthusiasm and competitive energy generated by the inaugural season. CGL began to establish itself as an annual fixture and a distinctive part of the Club's sporting calendar.
Growing in Scale
The third edition marked another significant step in the evolution of CGL. Participation grew to 21 teams and 378 players, reflecting the League's increasing popularity and competitive stature.
A Signature Club Event
By its fourth edition, CGL had firmly established its identity as one of the most anticipated events on the Chandigarh Golf Club calendar, bringing together competition, team spirit, strategy and fellowship.
Where Competition Meets Camaraderie
What began as an innovative idea has grown into a distinctive golfing tradition. CGL has created a platform where golfers compete as teams, build friendships and share memorable moments on and off the course.
Its greatest legacy is not only the champions it has produced, but the community and spirit it continues to build.
